Your beard should be thoroughly wet before you add your shampoo.

Use hot water to open the cuticle, allowing any dirt or product trapped in the hair to be removed. When your hair is rinsed in warm water, it loosens the oils in the facial area and opens the cuticle so it is able to absorb the oil in your conditioner.

Add a small amount of beard oil to your already wet beard. Gently massage the oil through the beard and lightly rinse before any shampooing.

This will help nourish the skin and protect fragile ends. This will not only keep ends healthy, it will fill any holes in the cuticle with moisture, making it smoother and boosting shine.

Shampoo the hair closest to the skin. Apply shampoo from the roots to the ends. Don’t overdo it with the shampoo.

The hair closest to the skin is the youngest and will be the oiliest, while the end of the hair is the oldest, usually driest and most fragile part of the hair.

Friction can permanently damage your hair’s cuticle, leading to breakage and damaged face locks. Think about washing your beard like you hand wash your jewels — very carefully.

Start at the mid-lengths to the tips.

After you’ve rinsed out your shampoo, squeeze some of the water out of the beard before you put in the conditioner. Leave it in until you’ve finished showering. The longer you leave the conditioner in, the better it absorbs. Don’t put conditioner at the roots of your hair; the natural oil from your skin is more concentrated there.

Cold water will tightly shut cuticles, causing your beard to reflect the most light and give off the most shine. Now run a comb through it to remove any tangles.
